Cape Breton Humourist Frank Macdonald at Vogler’s Cove
Award-winning columnist and humourist Frank Macdonald will appear at Vogler’s Cove Community Hall on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 7 p.m., reading from his Cape Breton novels: his third novel, Tinker and Blue – the rollicking adventures of two Cape Breton boys far from home in 1968 San Francisco – and his earlier funny and poignant novels A Forest for Calum and A Possible Madness (both nominated for the Dartmouth Book Award and long-listed for the IMPAC-Dublin Award).
Frank Macdonald is a reporter and columnist with his home-town weekly newspaper, The Inverness Oran. South Shore readers know him as the writer of a column of home-spun humour in Rural Delivery magazine, published in Liverpool. In 2011 his play Her Wake won Best Canadian Production at the Liverpool International Theatre Festival. He has also published two collections of newspaper and magazine columns and toured a one-man play depicting a day in the life of a newspaper columnist.
His partner, artist Virginia McCoy will join him at Vogler’s Cove. Her bold, colourful paintings illustrated Mr. Macdonald’s children’s story, T.R.’s Adventure at Angus the Wheeler’s, published in 2010 by Cape Breton University Press. Mr. Macdonald has donated all four novels to the Read & Share Corner library at Vogler’s Cove Community Hall.
Co-hosts are the VCCH Read & Share Corner and the Liverpool Literary Society. Vogler’s Cove Community Hall is located at 8544 Highway 331, Vogler’s Cove (Exit 16 or 17 off the 103). Free admission. Refreshments. Copies of Mr. Macdonald’s books will be available to purchase from the author.
